Healing Waters and Natures Embrace: My Journey to Wellness at Indian Springs

This past week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Indian Springs State Park in Flovilla, GA. On the recommendation of a dear friend, I ventured there in search of wellness and balance. The park is renowned for its "healing water," believed to help with conditions like Psoriasis, Eczema, upper respiratory and digestive tract issues, as well as neurological and blood-related ailments.
Indian Springs has a rich history, being one of the oldest state parks in the United States and a place where Native Americans once gathered for the spring's healing properties. The water is rich in minerals like sulfur, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which are known to aid in detoxification, improve skin health, support digestion, and enhance overall bodily functions.
Armed with my 5-gallon jug, I filled it with the spring's healing water to bring back home to my family. The experience was deeply enriching. I practiced grounding, which involves connecting directly with the Earth by walking barefoot on natural surfaces. This practice is believed to recharge the body with much-needed energy, reduce inflammation, and improve sleep.
Walking in nature, I felt my body absorbing the fresh air and the energy from my surroundings. The sunlight provided a natural source of Vitamin D, crucial for bone health and immune function. It was a beautiful reminder of the simple yet profound joys that nature offers.
As we continue our journey of living out loud, let’s remember to take moments for ourselves, explore new paths to wellness, and embrace the healing power of nature. Together, we can support and inspire each other to achieve balance and well-being in our lives.

This past weekend, I embarked on an impromptu journey to Baltimore, Maryland, to celebrate my nephew's graduation. He is part of my family through relationships cultivated when I was young. My connection to this family is quite unique. My nephew's grandparents, whom I affectionately call Aunt Billye and Uncle John, took me into their home when they grew weary of seeing the neglect and abuse I suffered within my biological family. I am ever so grateful they chose me. It was one of the best things that ever happened to me.
The love they showed me throughout my teenage years and into adulthood molded my ideals and shaped my belief that I could achieve anything. Their unwavering support has been a cornerstone in my life, and I truly love them for that. They were there when I needed them most.
This past weekend, we not only celebrated my nephew's milestone but also Aunt Billye's 84th birthday. Being able to embrace both of them, as well as my little sister, her children, and her husband, filled me with an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude. I have so much to be thankful for because of them.
After the celebration in Baltimore, I made another spontaneous trip to New York City to surprise my "blood" big sister. We hadn't seen each other since December. My big sister loves me dearly and is always attentive, even when I'm grumpy. I decided to change my return flight to Atlanta and detour to see her. She was very surprised and touched that I altered my plans for her.
Although we only spent one day together, it was one of the best days of my life. We visited a lovely community garden in the Bronx- one of the many gardens under the NY Restoration Project (Target Bronx Garden) , where we met new friends, ate, drank tea, and sowed new seeds in the garden. We had an amazing time laughing and learning about plants and how to grow them.
Later, my sister took me on a bus and train ride to LaGuardia Airport. We had so much fun talking about the sights, buildings, and people we encountered along the way. The best part was our farewell at the airport, knowing it was just a temporary goodbye until our next meeting. When I reached my gate, I found a neatly made tuna sandwich prepared with all the love and care of a mother, reminding me once again of my sister's love.
I love my big sister deeply. She is my blood sister, and our bond is irreplaceable. This past weekend's experiences with both my blood and chosen family reaffirmed the importance of holding family close and cherishing every moment we have with them. Life is not promised, so we must cherish our family, no matter who they are—blood or non-blood. Family, whether by blood or by choice, is a source of strength, love, and joy. Let's make every effort to enjoy and appreciate them at every opportunity.
