Editor’s Note: Lessons From the Fire – Still I Rise

Whew, what a week. It came with its fair share of revelation, disappointment, and triumph — a beautiful, messy reminder that life will always be life’ing. And yet, through it all, I remain grounded in my mission to walk fully in my divine purpose.

Let me take you on a quick journey.

Remember that tenant I told you about — the one who was squatting in my property, abusing the system, and pushing me into financial corners I never asked to be in? I’ve had to take on odd jobs just to stay afloat. But God! This week, the court finally awarded me a dispossession judgment. And within one day of receiving notice, she was out. That’s not just a legal victory — it’s a spiritual one. A reminder that justice will come when you stand firm and don’t fold.

And in the same breath of renewal… I’m going back to school! Yes, your girl has been officially accepted into Southern New Hampshire University to finish the degree I began in 1987. I’m 55 years old, and this is proof that it’s never too late to dream again, to reclaim what was once put down, and to say “yes” to your next chapter. Imagine how many more women I can reach. How many more doors will open. All because I dared to say, “I’m not done yet.”

Now, the most tender part…

This week I also had to face a hard truth. After seven years of dating my best friend, I had to finally accept that the relationship was over — without warning, without a conversation, without closure. Six months of silence became my answer. And though it hurt deeply, I realized the most painful part wasn’t losing him — it was the time I spent questioning my own worth.

Sis, let me tell you something: You are not broken. You are not the reason someone else chose silence. You are not at fault for loving deeply.

Sometimes, people don’t say with words what they scream with actions. And while it took me seven years to see that truth clearly, I now know that with or without them… I AM STILL ENOUGH.

So here’s what I offer you this month:
If you’re fighting unseen battles, if you’re restarting dreams, if you’re standing at the edge of heartbreak — let this be your sign to keep going.
Your power is not diminished by what didn’t work.
Your value is not determined by who left.
Your purpose is still yours to fulfill.

Let’s continue to rise — together.
